One page torn half way but intact and repairable. Contains the following handwritten note on the ffep: "Lecture delivered twelve years ago at the French war college, before the days of the airplane and the poison gas, they show the fundamental theories of the master strategist who could use the new with the old, and for whom, first and last, the will to win was, from private to general, the quality first desired." Foch looks at the progression of military tactical theory from the Napoleonic Wars until the start of the 20th century. Nine maps on three large leafs. All maps have some tears, especially along the crease. Previous owner left an article clipped from a 1918 edition of the New York Tribune discussing the German leaders' re-examination of the causes of their defeat.
